Surprisingly complex games – Games that were much more than we expected – Tabletop Bellhop Gaming Podcast Episode 103

Surprisingly Complex Games – Games that were much more than we expected. In this episode, we talk about games that surprised us in a good way. In the game room, we compare a couple of games with older versions of them. First will be how Gloomhaven Jaws of the Lion differs from Gloomhaven and then Mermaid Adventures Revised, which is now a setting book for The Pip System Corebook. In The Bellhop’s Tabletop, we talk about Camp Capstone, another online game convention, and Runaway Hirelings an improv-heavy fantasy RPG.

—Ask The Bellhop—

This week we have a question from a long time fan of our show, Prayerborne, who wrote to say:

“I’ve actually thought before that an interesting discussion topic would be “Surprisingly advanced games” older games with mechanics we think of as recent inventions, or even newer games that are ‘gamier’ than we’d expect (mass-marketed Hunger Games: District 12 is a EURO!?!)”
