Great games for introducing a new player to hobby board games – Ask The Bellhop

February 2, 2019 by Moe T. Leave a Comment

I love getting new people into the tabletop gaming hobby. I make it a point to try to be a board gaming ambassador, to try to spread my love of games to the world. Today's question deals with one aspect of advocating for our hobby, picking which games to introduce to new gamers.

Kat asked,
What game would you introduce to people who aren't used to playing games? What's the one game that you have introduced to hook people? [ READ MORE ]

After dinner board gaming with 6 players – Ask the Bellhop

January 19, 2019 by Moe T. Leave a Comment

I'm going back to the oldest question in the pile and talking about some higher player count hidden gem boardgames. I also thought this question fit well for a follow up to the last Ask the Bellhop where we talked about food at game night.

Emmett O'Brian asks,
What are some underrated/lesser known 4-6 player board games that can be played after dinner?
Thanks for the question Emmett. My Monday night game group is usually in this player count range so hopefully I can suggest some games that weren't on your radar. [ READ MORE ]

Do’s and don’ts of tabletop gaming at cafes and pubs – Ask the Bellhop

October 13, 2018 by Moe T. Leave a Comment

Ivan Sorensen, over on Google+ asks,

Gaming in pubs and cafes: [What are some] do's and don'ts.
Thanks for the question, Ivan.
I'm going to make an assumption here. I'm going to assume you are asking about public gaming events where a group of gamers gather at the local cafe or pub to play games with a variety of different people. If I'm wrong on this and maybe you were looking for date night game suggestions or tips for playing with your mates at the local watering hole let me know.
Since launching the Windsor Gaming Resource in 2002, I've run a variety of tabletop gaming events at a variety of venues. Many of these events have been at local coffee shops or cafes and at a couple of local pubs. Playing in public is not the same as playing at home. Similarly playing at a pub is not the same as playing at a cafe. Let's take a look at both of these. [ READ MORE ]

What are my top 20 games of all time? – Ask The Bellhop

September 29, 2018 by Moe T. Leave a Comment

Pretty much everyone asks,

What are your favourite games?
Since I launched Tabletop Bellhop the question I get asked the most is some variation of this question. What's your favourite deck builder? Do you think Concordia is the best game ever? What's your top 5/10/25? With our 10th episode of Tabletop Bellhop Live coming up this week I thought this would be a good time to finally give an answer to this question.
This is also a follow up to last week, where I talked about my favourite game mechanics. I thought that would lead well into this. [ READ MORE ]
