Review: Animal Empire, A high player count anthropomorphic card game with a very interesting Vassal mechanic

September 17, 2020 by Moe T. Leave a Comment

While I wouldn't go so far as to call myself a Furry, over the years I have found that I dig many games with anthropomorphic animals in them. The latest anthro games I've had the chance to play is Animal Empire, a "take that", negotiation heavy, empire building, card game from Down Under.

In addition to the unique theme, Animal Empire is also a hobby card game playable with up to eight players. It's not often you find non-party games that work with a player count that high. [ READ MORE ]

Board Game Review: Flick Wars a Dexterity Based Wargame, Combining army building, strategy and tactics with flicking

September 14, 2020 by Moe T. Leave a Comment

I am a big fan of dexterity games, specifically flick based dexterity games, and I love to see something new being done with the flicking mechanic. That's what we have here in Flick Wars. Flick Wars brings flicking and dexterity to wargaming.

Flick Wars is a wargame where players pick a faction to play, build an army, set up a map and battle it out. The difference here from most tabletop wargames is that the main mechanic in Flick Wars is flicking wooden discs.  [ READ MORE ]

Orléans Trade & Intrigue an expansion, for Orléans that offers four new optional modules – Review

September 11, 2020 by Moe T. Leave a Comment

Orléans: Trade & Intrigue is the second expansion for the bag building board game Orléans. This expansion for Orléans does not require the first expansion (Orléans: Invasion) to play. It contains four modules that you can add individually to your games of Orléans.

The expansion modules in Trade & Intrigue include Orders, New Events, New Beneficial Deeds and Intrigue. In this review, I will take a look at each of these optional modules for Orleans.  [ READ MORE ]

Review of the Eminent Domain Exotica Expansion, Adding asteroid mining and aliens to the popular deck-builder

September 6, 2020 by Moe T. Leave a Comment

Exotica is the second expansion for the deck-building card game Eminent Domain from Tasty Minstrel Games.

Two new aspects of play are added to Eminent Domain with the Exotica Expansion. The first is asteroids and the ability to mine them. The second is the new Exotic tag and the planets and technologies that go along with it. [ READ MORE ]

A look at Sanctum, a board game adaptation of Diablo and other hack and slash video games, Board Game Review

September 4, 2020 by Moe T. Leave a Comment

I first saw the strategy board game Sanctum at Origins 2019. At that time the CGE demo team explained how this board game is meant to recreate the feel of fantasy video games like Diablo. I was sold on the concept immediately.

Note due to this being a CGE game don't expect a fast and furious dice chucker. This is actually a highly strategic Euro that is all about planning ahead, choosing which demons to kill and optimizing your equipment. But does it feel like Diablo? Read on to find out.  [ READ MORE ]

EXIT The Game: The Haunted Roller Coaster, gateway escape room in a box, Review

August 31, 2020 by Moe T. Leave a Comment

The Haunted Roller Coaster is promoted by Kosmos as being the gateway to their EXIT: The Game series of escape room in a box board games.

While this wasn't our first EXIT experience and we aren't beginners, I do have to say that Kosmos nailed it with The Haunted Roller Coaster. This is a fantastic puzzle game and would indeed be an excellent entry point to the EXIT series.  [ READ MORE ]

Roll For Lasers: A Museum Security Roll And Write – Board Game Review

August 30, 2020 by Moe T. Leave a Comment

I have been a fan of laser based games going back to Laser Chess on the Amiga. When I first heard about Roll For Lasers, a new roll and write board game, I knew I had to try it out.

Roll For Lasers has players first placing targets on a map, then placing a series of mirrors, then firing lasers and using those mirrors to hit as many targets as you can. The interesting bit here though is that the targets and mirrors that you place can be used by all of the players.  [ READ MORE ]

Escape Arkham Asylum in Talisman Batman Super-Villains Edition – Board Game Review

August 29, 2020 by Moe T. 1 Comment

I have been a fan of Talisman The Magical Quest Game since first discovering it back in 1983. I am also a long time fan of DC Comic's Batman. When I heard that The Op had mashed these two things together and created a Batman version of Talisman called Talisman: Batman Super-Villains Edition, I knew I needed to try this game.

Talisman Batman Super-Villains Edition is a re-theme of the Fourth Edition Revised version of Talisman where you play popular Batman villains like Joker, Penguin, Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy, trying to escape from Arkham Asylum [ READ MORE ]

Review: Breakdancing Meeples, a silly meeple rolling filler game from Atlas Games

August 28, 2020 by Moe T. Leave a Comment

The board game Breakdancing Meeples is pretty much exactly what you expect it to be. It's a game where you try to complete dance routines by rolling a set of wooden meeple. Along with this, you get an interesting card drafting mechanic to add some much-needed player agency and choice.

When I first saw Breakdancing Meeples I couldn't help but think, "How is it that it took until 2020 for someone to publish a game using meeple rolling as it's core mechanic?".  [ READ MORE ]
