Take a look inside the box for Reef by Emerson Matsuuchi. Reef is an abstract strategy board game for up to four players about building a coral reef. This boardgame features chunky plastic reef pieces that you stack and use to build a three-dimensional coral reef.
Reef was published in Canada by Next Move Games in 2018 and is considered by many to be a follow-up to Azul from the same publisher.
Note this unboxing video is for the first edition of Reef. Reef was republished in a second edition in 2020. The only changes are new art on the player boards with higher contrast and changing the colours of the reef pieces to be more colourblind friendly.
What do you get in the abstract board game Reef?
A splendid game with simple, but interesting choices of how to grow a coral reef! The choice is easy – play a card or collect a card! Be sure to plan ahead and create beautiful patterns. From the designer Emerson Matsuuchi, Reef is super photogenic and fun—Reef is a favorite for families and gamers!
Reef is one of many abstract strategy games from Next Move Games. Check out my review of Azul Summer Pavilion to learn more about one of my favourite games from this publisher.
